Small world changes fast

If microcosm are inevitable, it enforces the view that society tends towards order; Eliminating chaos to create structure. In essence, humans seek to create a closed ecology within the confine of its comfort zones. Naturally, a organized environment is beneficial to the survival of humans, if the variables could be moderated to provide a constant, moderation of the factors opposing life becomes easier.

However, a closed community runs the danger of isolation. Random factors constantly force interaction with elements outside the system. Physical and ideological interaction. If changes took years, this is hardly a concern, but this is the age of rapid changes. Days are enough.

I for one find it exceedingly hard to keep updated with the general and current events. It is a conflict of interests at times, to stay engrossed in the immediate or to take a step back and see things from a wider perspective.

A wider perspective would be preferable, but the constant pressure to perform edges one on to become over-engrossed in the present problems. "It's just for the 2 years, it's just for the moment". Eventually it extends to include the rest of your life.

We can't afford to ignore everything around us, but in trying to accomodate the world is nigh impossible. Balance is paramount.

Freedom

Freedom is a responsibilty not a priviledge. To choose is a heavy responsibility and please, if you are not ready to bear such a burden, do not demand it. Least you find yourself abusing it.

Individual freedom and individual responsibility. 2 dependent and important concepts. Freedom requires responsible and sensible minds.

Otherwise, the concept of freedom has not much meaning. Without responsibility, there would not be the freedom to choose to be, against primal urges. Freedom encompasses much more than yielding to your instincts.

It's about knowing the sway that your subconcious holds, and inspite of that, stay your course. That is freedom. It is the ability to choose to swim with the flow OR against it.

Who ever said that freedom was about rebelling aginast everthing. That's not exactly freedom. In fact, I call it desperation.

Desperate men swim against the flow of time and tide, to prove a futile point. In hope that this apparent stregth can be equated to freedom. It's about choosing, not about struggling. The choice to execute and subsequently, positive action to enforce the decision.

Choices, responsibility and free will. Freedom.

dream

If it's all like a dream, I'd have gotten everything I desired. Unfortunately, it is NOT like a dream. In a dream, it will end perfectly, with orange sunsets and clean pristine waters.

In the meantime between now and greater purposes, one would require a solution to keep one's sanity.

The voices grow loud around us all the time, and we need to keep the sun shining over our heads, smile, and the better day will be just around the corner.

Dreams, dreams, dreams. If only I can explain what visions I see, and what I hope to bring. It's going to be beautiful, and colourful, but I have no medium of expressing it. Not at the moment, hopefully soon.

Walking around aimlessly at times and being subservient to reluctance. Speak up! Carpe Diem. What's this nonsense about being a conservative, shy asian?

Really... Are asian values that submissive? I don't know.

Eventually

School has retarded my creative facility, reducing artistic activity to virtually nothing. Trying to solve maths questions, memorizing equations, and little opportunity to write, draw or to discuss anything philosophical.

In other words, B-O-R-I-N-G. It's a good kind of boring, different from the other species of boring. The species that is native to inaction, rather than the one native to lack of variety.

Apart from classes, socializing and homework, there's little room for anything else, and in the midst, I'm losing my style. Artistic style in the way I live my life. The swagger, the cocky attitude.

Thanks to maths, I'm being humbled again. Maths, oh maths, the bane of my existence. My greatest foe, comes face to face with me once again. In the JC days, I did a great job of evading it's relentless assault, or rather, I just avoided it. In the University, it will be an inevitability that I cannot avoid.

This time, round, there's going to be a new attitude - "As long as it takes."

this, as I say is all jsut temporary stumbling stones, eventually, there will be a clear path.

Assuming it makes sense

Presumptions are dangerous. Assumptions are the building blocks of a failure, thus, it is paramount to have an open mind. Tolerance is the keyword. The alternatives to fighting are plenty, yet fighting is the solution preferred by most.

Please don't mind my stating some observations of the international community. Of course by that, I make an assumption too; Assuming that the prevailing attitude is one of irrationality.

Very simply put, thoughts are an assumption. We have to presume that our sentience is correct and reliable. To assume that it can be trusted, and whatever cognitive functions of our being is a result of an infallible process. Which is of course, not necessarily the case.

That would mean it is inevitable to make assumptions. No?

Confusing, huh? Me, I'd just like to presume that the world is a bright and cheery place.

I'll leave you with a really nice song, Summer Samba (Press the play button below)

Summer Samba

Someone to hold me tight
That would be very nice
Someone to love me right
That would be very nice
Someone to understand
Each little dream in me
Someone to take my hand
To be a team with me

So nice...
That would be so nice
If one day I find
Someone who will take my hand and samba through life with me

Someone to cling to me
Stay with me right or wrong
Someone to sing to me
Some little samba song
Someone to take my heart
And give his heart to me
Someone who's ready to give love
And start with me

Oh yes...
That would be so nice
Should it be you and me
I can see it would be nice

La la-la la la, la la-la-la-la-la la
La la-la la la, la la-la-la-la-la la

Someone to cling to me
Stay with me right or wrong
Someone to sing to me
Some little samba song
Someone to take my heart
And give his heart to me
Someone who's ready to give love
And start with me

So nice...
That would be so nice
Should it be you and me
I can see it would be nice

Optimistic star thrower

School is busy as hell. First, you have to get to lectures on time, taking into consideration you are unprepared and green around the ears, holding nothing but a few flimsy sheet of paper, having forgotten to print out the notes. Couple that with attempting to navigate the large campus fraught with multiple floors, spanning B7 to level 7. Miraculously, I'm still alive. =)

Thoughts? Inspired by everything!

But, people cannot do everything, that's why we need to do whatever we can when we see the opportunity, instead of watching it walk pass. We should know that because we cannot do everything, we should not refuse to do something that we can.

Well, I've been saying alot of crazy things to alot of people lately, telling them of things that are so out of this world. "Who's this mad-man?" they must be pondering.

This mad-man is me, and he's mad about life. Yeah, school is quite intimidating, but school, is also exciting. As I said, it's one of the last chances to experiment within a sheltered environment before going out into the real world. Test limits, and learn how far you can go. If you fall, there are still mentors seniors and peers to help you along.

Live each day as though they will be our last. Seize each opportunity as they come along! Occassionally some will slip pass via apathy. No worries there, the least we can do is try. Through trying we will find the courage to change, and the wisdom to improve.

Inject some enthusiasm and zest into our lives, and by that I certainly do not mean your own life, but the lives of everyone around. Don't be afraid if they call you a mad-man, at least you'll be a happy, optimistic mad-man.

Talking, talking and talking even more. That's a refreshing change to my life. Letting these words flow out, these words that could make sense, and maybe make a difference. We change the world one person at a time. Like how Mr. Tan used to explain.

Here, i'd like to leave everyone with a little story

The Star Thrower

A man was walking along the beach one morning and he came upon a boy who was throwing starfish back into the ocean. The man asked the boy, "What are you doing?" The boy replied, "I'm trying to save all these sea stars from dying." The man looked up from his spot and scanned the beach. The man saw thousands upon thousands of starfish scattered along the shore. The man then said, "You cannot save them all; there are too many, you cannot make a difference!" The boy, not bothered by the man's remarks, picked up another sea star, threw it back into the ocean, and said to the man, "It made a difference to that one!"

That evening the man couldn't sleep. In the morning, he returned to the beach, searched for the young man, joined him and, together, they started throwing sea stars back to the ocean.

Let's be, then, one more willing to make this world a better place. Let's be the difference!

Excerpts from The Star Thrower by L. Eiseley

LEt's make a difference one at a time. =)

D-I-O-N-E! S-U-P-E-R

Came back on a high note. Great friends, wonderful time, and cool experience. Dione, the OG, no going to forget any of them anytime soon.

School starts in 4 days, and time is flying past at breakneck speed.

Whoosh!

Israel and Lebanon are stil at it, whilst the Un is doing an excellent job in demonstrating its 'ceremonial' role. Is it just a body that sees, speaks and discusses, but in the end, does nothing at all? The UN should not be afraid of diplomatic pressure from any side. The UN is supposed to be a body representative of peace and striving to give everyone peace. UNITED NATIONS. Not a world at war. United. At present it looks just like the United Nations discussion forum.

Oh! Here's some pictures from Hall 16's FOC:Dione!
